Selections from Essays and Journalism: 1931-1949
George Orwell
479 pages

A collection of George Orwell's non-fiction work, essays, political commentary, reviews etc from 1931 untill 1948. This is not something you can read in one setting, even if you had the time for it. Instead, you pick out the pieces that look interesting first, moving back and forth through the book. Only after you've done that, you start reading everything.

Or so I did, at least. Reading this book cleary showed up various of Orwell's themes, which he had already developed in Animal Farm or would develop in 1984. He's a sharp and canny observer of what's going on in literrature and politics (which in his view go hand in hand) and certainly worth reading.
