Today is 24 hour comics day in which insaneambitious cartoonists attempt
to create a 24 page comic book in 24 hours. It's an invention of --who else-- Scott
McLeod, intended as a challenge to Steve Bissette, normally not the fastest cartoonist in the world, since then taken up by quite a
lot of cartoonists desperate for a gimmick and since a few years also as a recurring annual event.
In the Netherlands the 24 hours comix challenge this year is taken up at two locations, at the world's bestest and oldest
still existing comics shop, Lambiek, but also at the strip museum in
Groningen and it seems the G'runn people are a bit desperate to start
up a rivalry with the Lambiek gang in Amsterdam, if I read between
the lines at Reinder's. It's not surprising, as both cities have a flourishing independent comics scene and a reputation to
uphold. Be sure to check out the work at both sites, as there is some cracking good stuff being made at both.
This is just a place for me to jot down some random thoughts and reactions to the news so I don't have to yell at the television or radio, or mutter to myself whilst reading the news.
