Well, That’ll Knock Diana Out of The Headlines

Move over Al-Fayed and the Daily Express, there’s a new scandal in town:

Royal ‘target of sex blackmail’
GARETH ROSE

A MEMBER of the Royal Family has been targeted in a “sex and drugs” blackmail plot, it was reported last night.

Scotland Yard was contacted after the alleged blackmailers threatened to go public with a video that they claimed showed the Royal – who cannot be named for legal reasons – engaged in a sex act.

A demand of £50,000 was put forward but a police sting led to the video being seized and the men arrested, it was claimed. According to the Sunday Times, the Royal household was first contacted on August 2 when the caller only identified himself by his first name.

He said he was aware that another man who worked on the Royal staff was in possession of an envelope containing cocaine. He claimed it had been passed to him by the Royal and that the envelope was embossed with the Royal’s personal signature.

It was also alleged during the conversation that a videotape showing the aide giving someone oral sex existed. The recipient of the sex act was indicated to be the Royal.

According to reports, the video also contained unsubstantiated allegations about other members of the Royal Family, including the Queen.

The caller then left his mobile phone number and asked for the Royal to phone them back. During subsequent calls the blackmailers claimed the video showed the aide snorting cocaine. The blackmailers guaranteed that no one else would ever see the video, which was stored safe in their flat.

According to the newspaper, a senior legal adviser to the Royal called back and agreed with the blackmailers that he would see the tape before handing over the cash.

A Whitehall security official was reported as saying: “He said he wanted £50,000 from the Royal for the tape.”

Who ever can it be?

My first pick would be Prince Edward, for reasons that have been plain to see for years, But that’s too obvious, It could be Harry – I get the impression he’s a bit of a lad and up for anything. But that being so, it wouldn’t be much of a scandal would it? Certainly not worth half a million fifty grand… [I need my eyes testing, the zeroes are blurring together.]

Hmmm. My money’s still on Edward….but I don’t think he’s worth half a mil fifty grand either.

Squeaky-clean heir to the throne William’s girlfriend Kate Middleton might well be camouflage for other interests (I won’t call her a beard, that would be defamatory and unkind), in the mould of Edward’s Sophie Rhys-Jones: a nice middle-class gel with ambitious parents who’re socially unsure enough to make no fuss about a very rich royal husband who’s that way. They know the deal, unlike Diana. Money and position buys hypocrisy and discretion.

Whoever it is, I don’t really bloody care except as I care whether Britney Spears gets custody of her kids or not. It’s just gossip and sleaze. Come out already and draw the poison. Jeez.

Blackmail and scandal, while amusing for those of who like to take the piss and also vastly profitable for the newspapers, is really a bit pathetic in these openly hedonistic times, when the Sultan of Brunei’s daughter goes to her wedding in a solid gold Rolls Royce covered in diamonds. When Britney’s minge makes the front page while thousands dying in Iraq barely make page 2, what’s a bit of blow and a blowjob in the broom cupboard?

If we must live in a monarchy, let’s at least have one that’s openly libertine, instead of all this squalid huddling in palace corners with the servants (or rather agency temps).

Dammit. we want a royalty we can properly condemn, one that practices its vices out in the open like any other hedonistic, overprivileged sleb, instead of this buttoned-up, ass-clenched, Marks & Spencers version of royalty with its Hyacinth Bucket sense of public propriety.

Perhaps this’ll cut through the fuzzy pink, soft focus glow that surrounds the Queen and we’ll finally get just how bloody stupid the whole idea of royalty is. Perhaps. In the meantime I’m revelling in the thoiught of the right royal piss-take the whole thing is bound to provoke from Graham Norton.

Old Cock-Headed Man-Whores Don’t Fade Away, They Just Get More Hypocritical

Guess who said this (move away from the google – see if you can guess) about the poster for San Francisco’s Folsom Street Fair?

[…]

Herein lies the problem with those who represent themselves as the mainstream of gay “culture”. These radicals believe that their worldview, shared by only a tiny sliver of the population enjoys widespread support in American society. According to Copper, the “extreme members of the global community” are the 80% of Americans who identify themselves as Christians.

Christians cannot view the Folsom Street Fair poster and not be offended and sickened by its blatant mockery of Jesus Christ. The advertisement did not come from a heart that loves God, but one that hates the truth about sin and salvation that Jesus Christ represents. Barber correctly pointed out, “‘Gay’ activists disingenuously call Christians ‘haters’ and ‘homophobes’ for honoring the Bible, but then lash out in this hateful manner toward the very people they accuse.” My own experience with these people led me to conclude that while Christians profess to “love the sinner and hate the sin” the extremists of the Angry Gay Left “love the sin and hate the sinner.” Responsible gay leaders should speak out against the poster, but they will not, fearing the vicious attacks from the hatemongers of their own community.

[…]

Perhaps religious leaders and social conservatives should be grateful to the creators of the poster for showing America what the gay agenda really means for society.

Have you guessed who it is yet?

Yes, it’s Jeff Gannnon aka Guckert, aka The Cock-Headed Man-Whore, lately of Right-bankrolled ‘news’ website Talon News and he of the late night entries through the back door of the White House (and who knows how many other back doors in the White House), the records of which the Secret Service have unnaccountably lost.

This Jeff Gannon. (Warning, full frontal willy nudity, my old blog wasn’t as sedate as this one.)

“There will be more rejoicing in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who do not need to repent.”

San Diego’s Republican mayor speaks surprisingly, and movingly, in support of gay marriage:

If that’s not a turnabout eniough, the Moustache of Understanding himself, millionaire economic columnist and pundit Tom Friedman, has finally spoken out against Guantanamo and the US’ implementation of the War on Terror. I get the impression he’s seen or heard or been told something that made the blinkers fall off.

9/11 has made us stupid. I honor, and weep for, all those murdered on that day. But our reaction to 9/11 — mine included — has knocked America completely out of balance, and it is time to get things right again.

It is not that I thought we had new enemies that day and now I don’t. Yes, in the wake of 9/11, we need new precautions, new barriers. But we also need our old habits and sense of openness. For me, the candidate of 9/12 is the one who will not only understand who our enemies are, but who we are.

Before 9/11, the world thought America’s slogan was: “Where anything is possible for anybody.” But that is not our global brand anymore. Our government has been exporting fear, not hope: “Give me your tired, your poor and your fingerprints.”

You may think Guantánamo Bay is a prison camp in Cuba for Al Qaeda terrorists. A lot of the world thinks it’s a place we send visitors who don’t give the right answers at immigration. I will not vote for any candidate who is not committed to dismantling Guantánamo Bay and replacing it with a free field hospital for poor Cubans. Guantánamo Bay is the anti-Statue of Liberty.

I wonder what it was that affected him so much?

The Vanguard of the Online Revolution – Parlour Pinks and MCWAs

Ooh, an online democracy conference! This looks new and shiny and exciting and empowering, doesn’t it? Boing Boing announces:

Personal Democracy Forum, NYC, May 18
This year’s Personal Democracy Forum in NYC on May 18 looks like an incredible show, with speakers like Esther Dyson, Craig “craigslist” Newmark, Eric Schmidt, Larry Lessig, Arianna Huffington and many others, discussing the theme, “The Flattening of Politics.”

Technology and the Internet are changing democracy in America. Personal Democracy Forum is a hub for the exciting conversation underway between political professionals, technologists, and anyone else invigorated by the remarkable potential of technology to engage citizens in the democratic process.

New and exciting for the same old leech-like white faces making money off it, you mean. and by ‘exciting conversation’ they mean over cocktails between those already heavy with money, influence and power.

Arianna, Esther, Craig – same old boomer faces, same old boomer politics, Democrats for ever rah rah rah, sis boom bah, must protect our nice comfortable way of life from scary fundies and scarier anticapitalists. This conference is just another Middlle Class White American (I’d’ve said Middle Class White Assholes, personally, but then I’m uncivil) share-the-profits-circle-jerk.

For ‘democratisation’ of the internets and blogging read: circle the wagons, the natives’re getting uppity.

Here’s an alternative view on the topic from Donna at The Silence of Our Friends. :

What is imperative for everyone to know, is that the majority of middle class white American people are untrustworthy and unreliable. (A handful of these people have discovered this, and those are the ones who tend to be trustworthy and reliable.) The reason for this is that they are completely self-centered. So you ask, “But Donna, isn’t everyone self-centered?” Yes, but it is the extent I am talking about. MCWAs’ are oblivious to everyone else around them and throughout the world. Only their problems, their issues, their concerns matter. Everyone else is just a “special interest”. In the blogging world, the major liberal/progressive/Democratic blogs are close to useless for informing or being informed by anyone but MCWAs. The only time people of color; poor people, including whites; those with disabilities; foreigners; labor, especially blue collar; just about anyone who isn’t a MCWA is mentioned with any concern on their blogs is when that person can be used for their agenda, not because the concern is real. Sometimes appearances is the only agenda, because when they can make themselves appear like they care, they all get to sit around and feel all warm and fuzzy and enlightened.

I gave up on the male-centered liberal mainstream blogs long ago. I thought that maybe since the women had to deal with the oppression of sexism and misogyny that I’d have more in common with them and have a place to work through our issues together. Wrong. Because they are privileged, but blind to it, they only see their issues. Since they are middle class white Americans, usually able bodied, usually heterosexual, usually white collar workers, etc they pay lip service to issues related to poverty, people of color in the US, anything about another country, anything about disability, most GLBT issues (but since some middle class white women are lesbians, this gets a little more interest), or anything having to do with blue collar workers, low level white collar, or part time/temp workers.

No, the big issues on their blogs revolve around preserving only what they already have and getting more for themselves, they really could care less if you are out in the cold looking in. Oh sure, sometimes they talk about poverty, or women in India, or immigrants in America; but look at the framing. Almost every topic leads back to how it affects them, it’s not really about the people they are using. If they don’t center it on the middle class white woman, someone (usually several) will do it in the comments. Even on our blogs, we have white people show up wanting us to reassure them that they are good people. That is tiring for those with little to keep propping up those with much. Figure out another way to work on your self esteem, like maybe doing something to make a difference, instead of whining that you don’t mean to be racist. I much prefer the ones I usually get, if they ask anything, instead of asking me to tell them that they are good people, they ask, Am I doing something wrong? What should I be doing? But I have seen this on other POC blogs and expect it as I continue blogging.

They are untrustworthy and unreliable and we should stop looking to them for any sort of help. It won’t be there. But you know something, in this country they are a minority, just like they are in the rest of the world. So whose issues are “special interests”? We the POC, the poor of all colors, the labor movement, the disabled, people from all over the world, all of us who are oppressed and truly care for each other need to come together and help each other. We don’t need them, they will soon be needing us. We will remember the ones who were by our sides and we will remember the ones who turned their backs or used us. So you middle class white feminists might want to jump on the bandwagon right about now, show some real concern for women who aren’t just like you. I’ll be happy to help you with your problems, but not at the expense of my problems, we will work TOGETHER. It’s not good enough to work on you keeping your privileges at my expense.

Well quite: that’s exactly what this conference is about, the haves keeping their privileges by forming cartels to take control of the technology so that only their voices, and voices of which they approve, are heard.

The attendees as this conference may call themselves the Democratic opposition or the netroots, or whatever they like – but at heart they don’t want to challenge the political status quo at all. They want to use technology to their own political and personal benefit, notto extend democracy to the unwashed toiling masses, who, after all, are too stupid to know what it is they want and who need an Arianna or an Esther Dyson or a John Aravosis to tell them.

No doubt the delegates (though they’re not delegates as such – no-one delegated them, they chose themselves) will feel all smug and ‘vanguard of the revolution’-ish as they network away and contemplate their new exciting roles in the sexy, exciting world of online democracy, but this is not an event for the average blogger or grassroots political activist. Look at how much it costs to go, for a start:

Registration for the Main PdF Conference includes:

Full access to the Main PDF Conference, May 18, 2007
Continental breakfast
Lunch
Networking post conference cocktail hour

Order
at $295.00 each
Price: $295.00 Processing: $0.00 Total: $295.00

Ooh, cocktails, the high life we’re living! Add on to the conference fee however much it costs to travel and rent a room in NYC and there’s not going to be much change from a thousand dollars, at a minimum. And isn’t it cute how they have the Unconference too, for the smelly poor people to maybe lap up some crumbs from the rich attendees tables while being kept away from the real powerbrokers. Isn’t that kind? Noblesse oblige.

God these people make me angry. Democratisation my ass – the MCWAs are doing what they always do, co-opting a movement built by others to their own benefit, while the real voices of the grassroots are effectively silenced. It’s not just the usual suspects either but those who were thought to be sympatico: I’ve noticed recently that the group of blogs that cluster around Atrios and Kos, all the names on the infamous email list, are pulling up ladders, erasing links, purging blogrolls and closing the drawbridges. The reformists are forming cartels and they don’t include us.

And they wonder why we hold them in contempt.

Self-Loathing Power Junkies R Us

In terms of sheer bang for the buck, however little or however much it cost The Nation to send Max Blumenthal to the wingnut fundraising conference CPAC, it’s been repaid a thousandfold in entertainment value alone.

The latest tale to emerge from Blumenthal’s CPAC visit is curiously reminiscent of the story of our old friend Jimmy Jeff Gannon:

CPAC’s Gay Porn Star Honoree and the Politics of Personal Crisis

I don’t know if David Horowitz knew Cpl. Matt Sanchez was once a gay porn star and male prostitute when he introduced him to me at last weekend’s CPAC. But he did know that Sanchez was an eager yes-man, and a supposed victim of the campus PC thuggery Horowitz has made a career out of decrying.

As Horowitz played cardiologist, ranting to me about how each leftist “has hatred in his heart” and how members of the New Left to which he once belonged had “treason in their hearts,” Sanchez stood faithfully by his side, muttering encouragement. “That’s right. That’s right,” Sanchez would say, almost on cue. Whenever I spoke, Sanchez would mumble something under his breath like, “That’s such a lie! Omigod!” or “See! Liberals are hateful.”

Horowitz probably discovered Sanchez after the ex-Marine appeared on Hannity & Colmes alleging that while studying at Columbia University, he was called a “baby-killer” by members of that school’s International Socialist Organization. This alleged episode, which was investigated by Columbia but never confirmed, also earned Sanchez a spot on the O’Reilly Factor.

For his supposed courage in the face of liberal cruelty, Cpl. Sanchez was presented with the Jeanne Kirpatrick Academic Freedom Award at this year’s CPAC. Sanchez was the perfect vehicle for the conservative movement’s ongoing attempt to wrap itself in the uniform, and to heap resentment on liberals for their supposed anti-military bias.

Soon, Sanchez was rubbing shoulders with the likes of Ann Coulter and Michelle Malkin. Malkin posted pictures of herself beside the corporal on her blog. Sanchez was clad in full military regalia and Malkin wore a big smile. But Malkin is not smiling anymore. Like so many of Sanchez’s boosters, she was mugged by reality.

As several gay blogs revealed late yesterday, Corporal Sanchez was known during his halcyon days as Rod Majors, a majorly well-endowed gay porn star. (Photos of Corp. Sanchez aka Rod Majors in action can be viewed here. I warn you, this link is NOT to be clicked on if you have minors around or if you’re in a crowded workplace). According to Tom Bacchus, Sanchez was also a $200-an-hour male prostitute who advertised himself (here) as an “excellent top.”

There is of course nothing inherently wrong with Sanchez being a gay porn star or a male escort. His past is only notable because he chose to join a movement that exploits anti-gay sentiment for political gain. Coulter’s now-famous “faggot” remark was not an aberration, but rather a symbol of the politics of resentment that propels the conservative movement and its elected Republican surrogates; a reflection of the bigotry conservatives have sought to write into the Constitution through the so-called Federal Marriage Amendment. The ascendant “family values” wing of the right is also responsible for sabotaging legislation allowing homosexuals to serve openly in the armed forces, a maneuver that may now spell the end of Sanchez’s career.

What is it that attracts people whose natural interest would seem completely opposed to the Republican agenda, to that agenda? Why feel the need to become so slavishly adherent to a movement that hates you? How can anyone deal with the internal conflicts and stay sane?

Blumenthal has a theory that he uses Ann Coulter to illustrate:
